The Best Cities for Savers

Wednesday, April 20, 2016

Most of us aspire to spend less and save more, often without progress. A recently released report shows that goal is possible to achieve—if you’re willing to move.

In the report, GOBankingRates.com ranks the 100 most populous cities in the U.S. from best to worst based on factors that affect the ability to save money. These factors are average reported gas prices, grocery costs, median home list price, median household income, median rent, sales tax and unemployment rate.

The 10 best cities for saving money, according to the report, are:

1. Gilbert, Ariz.
2. Plano, Texas
3. Lubbock, Texas
4. Kansas City, Mo.
5. Chandler, Ariz.
6. Virginia Beach, Va.
7. San Antonio, Texasplano
8. Fort Wayne, Ind.
9. Omaha, Neb.
10. Tulsa, Okla.

“If you’re looking for an affordable place to live that will leave enough money in your budget to stash in savings, consider the South, Southwest or Midwest,” says Cameron Huddleston, columnist for GOBankingRates.com. “Most of the best cities for savers are in these regions, where housing costs and everyday expenses are relatively low.”
