By John VoketWho is the top of the class, the cream of the crop, the best beyond compare when it comes to the most energy efficient lighting? I went looking for that product and only had to venture as far as Energize Connecticut, my home state resource for energy savings ideas, products and services.
When it comes to the most energy efficient lighting, several companies shine brightly. But there can only be one perfect score, and that illuminating 100 out of 100 point rating goes to the Nanoleaf 120W Equivalent LED.
This energy-efficient, A19 light bulb has a light output of 1,800 lumens and costs about $89. At the same time, its usage will save a whopping $58 in estimated lifetime energy savings versus a typical new light bulb of similar size.
Consumers may not think about light bulbs very much—until they blow out, right? But consider this: if all 2.0 billion light bulbs sold in the U.S. this year were the Nanoleaf 120W Equivalent LED—versus the current average light bulb—we could stop 175.3 billion (with a 'B') tons of CO2 emissions and save $162.6 billion in electricity cost. That's enough to fully power 67.9 million homes every year!
Squeaking in at second and third for most energy efficient bulb, with a score of 98 and 95 respectively, are the Nanoleaf 100W and 75W Equiv. LEDs. Bringing up a respectable fourth, with a 93 score, is the The TCP LA1050KND6—an energy-efficient, A19 light bulb with a light output of 900 lumens costing about $42.
TCP products also hold the fifth and sixth place for efficiency, with lucky seven going to the Philips 432286. This efficient, BR30 light bulb puts out 630 lumens and cost about $60.
In future reports, we'll take a look at exactly how well some other new home appliances and electronic products stack up to help save you the most in energy costs—stay tuned.
