Make Your Newly Purchased Home a Breath of Fresh Air

RISMEDIA, July 31, 2010—The National Association of Realtors states that summer is the most popular time of year to buy a home, and even in a deflated housing market, lower prices afford many the opportunity to become a homeowner. With this in mind, DUCTZ Indoor Air Professionals is letting new homeowners know that ductwork and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) service may be an integral part of turning a newly purchased house into a cleaner, more energy efficient home.

The U.S. Department of Energy states that the average home loses up to 40 percent of the heating or cooling energy through leaky or un-insulated duct systems. With energy costs at an all-time high, professional repair of inefficient ductwork could mean significant long-term savings. Additionally, DUCTZ recommends that the HVAC system be inspected for significant amounts of debris that may have accumulated from the home’s previous occupants.

“Just as you would clean the carpets or scrub the refrigerator to start with a clean slate and make the home your own,” said John Rotche, president of DUCTZ, “so should you rid your HVAC system of dust and debris left behind by the previous owner.”

DUCTZ echoes the recommendation of the National Air Duct Cleaners Association and the Environmental Protection Agency – if you can see visible dust, dirt, and debris, the system generally needs to be cleaned. However, the decision regarding the need for service should always be determined by a professional.
